In any company, the employer-employee relationship needs to be strong so that the company can accelerate in upwards direction. But, many of us fail to save it and therefore, end up losing it by saying things which may offend the head.
But, by avoiding these ten phrases, there are fewer chances of you getting fired.
# ” I WANT AN INCREASE IN MY SALARY BECAUSE I HAVE TO FIX MY HOUSE “
Make sure that you do not mix your house related issues with your work-issues because your boss is not your God who’ll mercifully grant you money just because you need to fix your house or to get married. No matter how rude this looks like, but your boss doesn’t care about your personal life. Impress your boss with your consecutive professional achievements and make yourself worthy and deserving enough and then you all ready to ask for an increment in your pay!
# ” CAN I LEAVE AFTER LUNCH? THERE IS NOTHING TO DO IN THE OFFICE ANYWAY.”
After you’ve finished your work early and you’ve met your daily goals for the day, do not approach your boss saying this phrase because this will only indicate your disinterest in office and lack of enthusiasm and zest in office related work.
Just say,” Can I leave early after lunch? “
# ” IT’S ALL TOM’S FAULT.”
Rather than blaming other people at your workplace, make sure that you own up for your mistakes, apologize and try to act mature because blaming other people is what children do and not thoughtful people. Well, there can other be other benefits for the same. Your boss will become more confident of you and is likely to trust you more in the future. So, rather than saying that phase, say that you’ll be careful next time and make sure this won’t happen again.
# ” I AM LEAVING.”
We all are aware that working in an office is not an easy job. There will be people who would not match with your opinion. Rather than making a whole buzz about the fact that you are leaving, prioritize leave. Do not make your opinion stand tall by slamming doors and causing a commotion here and there in the entire office because, after a point, people will stop caring about your actions. And, don’t forget that it’s not just you. There are hundreds of other people after you. So, sort out the matter by saying, ” we have different opinions regarding the matter. “
# WE HAVE ALWAYS DONE IT LIKE THIS.”
Once you start working in an organization, make sure that you are flexible enough to adapt to the new ways of working with new people since people with the more flexible approach are much in need as compared to the people who stay firm in their minds. There might be chances that your former boss did the same thing in a much better way but, you have to obey the orders of your new boss. This phase might even indicate your resistance to working according to the norms of the company! Try using this phase.
# “I WILL TRY.”
Rather than uttering this, opt for saying, ” I’ll do it.” Saying that you’ll try doing the given task shows the lack of willpower in doing your work. It even shows that you’ll run away from the responsibility as soon as something goes wrong. That’s why, show up, say yes and complete your tasks rather than just trying.
# I’VE TOO MANY THINGS TO DO.”
If your boss orders you to complete a particular task immediately, then you’re not supposed to say this phrase. Make sure that you prioritise your work and complete the given activity within the given time frame so that your boss doesn’t have to roam about searching for other people to do it.
# “WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?”
We all work in an organization to get paid. But, asking for a tip even for doing small tasks should be against your work ethics. However, your helpful nature can be taken for granted at times. So, make sure you know the difference between being useful and being taken advantage of!
# IT’S NOT MY PROBLEM.”
When you work in an organization, every other member working with you works to achieve the same goals which mean that you become a part of the same boat. And, when the boat is about to drown, it becomes the responsibility of you, as well, to put in your best efforts to save the boat and your career for that matter. However, it’s secondary if the problems don’t get resolved with it. At least, your boss will gain confidence and might seek advice from you!
# ” I JUST THOUGHT”
As mentioned earlier, rather than cooking up concocted stories, admit your mistakes make sure you learn from them because that will help to establish a better relationship with your boss.
