Winters have arrived. It is the favorite time of the year for most of the people. Though people love the snow but winters also makes your skin dry. With so many holidays lined up, you want to take care of yourself as much as possible. Along with your face, you must pay attention towards your feet and hands otherwise it will become chapped. Daily skin cream and moisturizers are not enough to take care of your hands and feet in this harsh winter. Frequent manicure and pedicures are essential for soft hands and feet. However, regularly visiting parlor can be quite expensive. Instead, we can use ingredients, readily available in our kitchen, for a quick DIY to moisturize our skin. Following article will lead you to a six-step home remedy for smoother hands and feet.

1. Cleanse

This process is better than dry filing. Add shampoo/body wash and salt to a tub full of warm water and bubble it up. Use nail polish remover to remove your nail polish. Now, add a slice of lemon or 2 tbsp of mouthwash for instant freshness. Soak your hands and legs not more than 5 minutes in this water. Gently, dry your hands and feet with the help a towel. As the nails are soft, you can file your nails easily.

2. Cuticle Removal

The conditioner softens the cuticles and helps in removing the cuticle. Apply some conditioner to the cuticles and wait for 2-3 minutes. Now, gently push back the cuticles. You can add some conditioner if required. Keep cuticles moist during the whole process and be very careful while removing cuticles, otherwise it can harm your nails. Soak again in the warm water for 3-4 minutes and wipe dry.

3. Scrub

Scrubbing removes dead skin from your hands and feet. For this purpose, you can use a scrub stone or you can make a scrub using sugar. You can use some other kitchen ingredients to a make scrub. Some of these are listed below :

1. This is the easiest scrub to make at home. Just mix honey and sugar and your scrub is ready!
2. Lemon, Olive Oil and Sugar Scrub: Mix 1 Tbsp of olive oil and sugar. Add ½ tsp of freshly squeezed lemon. This scrub is very useful for balancing the skin tone and also using this scrub every week in your routine can even out your skin tone and also reduces tan and discolorations.

Apply the scrub and massage in light circular motions without putting much pressure. Concentrate between the fingers and strokes gently. Massage for around 5 minutes. This way you are also hydrating and nourishing your hands and legs while you are scrapping out the dry, dead skin. Use a tissue paper to remove the sugar particles. Wash your face after some time.

4. Nourish

This is the part where we take care of our cuticles and hands/legs. Cuticle Care Creams can be made at home.
1. Coco Aloe Cream: Mix equal parts of organic coconut oil and aloe vera. Add essential oil if needed.
2. Petroleum lemon olive cream: Take 1 part of petroleum jelly and half a part of olive oil and 1/4th part of lemon juice and mix them.

Use the Coco Aloe Cream for better results. The coconut oil moisturizes and heals chapped skin. Apply the oil a little generously around your nail and also on the back of the nail and massage for 2-3 seconds so that oil is penetrated deep. You can also use Aloe vera to moisturizes the cuticles. To remove tan and add brightness and glow to your hands, take a mixture of tomato juice, potato juice and lemon juice. Massage the mixed juice onto the hands and legs for around 5-7 minutes and leave it for 3 minutes. So this whole process will take about 10 minutes.

5. Mask

A mask locks up all of the goodness. For the tan, you can use ubtan pack or use a homemade pack made of coffee powder, turmeric and castor oil. Castor oil is perfect for nourishment and hydration. Turmeric cures and coffee powder adds shine to hands. Apply the mixture on your hands and leave it for around 10 minutes. Once your pack has dried, wash it off with lukewarm water.

6. Soak and relax

Cleopatra used milk to keep her skin young. Milk softens and nourishes your skin. We can use milk to heal our skin. Take warm water up and the and add around 3 tbsp of milk. Soak hands and legs in this water for 7-10 minutes or till the water becomes cold. Dry your hands and feets gently with a towel.

 

The whole process will take around 45minutes. After following all these six steps, you will be left with soft and smooth hands and feet. Repeat this process at least once a week to have skin as soft as silk.
