8 Home Remedies To Whiten Your Skin

The increased pollution and hectic lifestyle that we follow takes a toll on our skin and leaves it dull with dark spots and blemishes. These eight home remedies will work their magic on you to bless you with improved skin texture and even skin tone. Do remember to use a sunscreen when trying these out.

  1. Raw honey, tomato juice and gram flour facial cleanser:

Raw honey works as a moisturiser and an anti-bacterial while the gram flour removes the dullness. Tomato juice is a known bleaching agent.

Method: Mix one or two tablespoons of gram flour, a teaspoon of raw honey, and tomato juice to make a smooth paste. Use it as a regular facial cleanser and wash off with water. For best results, use once a day.

  1. Hibiscus toner:

The AHAs in hibiscus improve the texture and complexion of the skin. Vitamin C lightens the skin tone while vitamin E does the moisturising part.

Method: The first step is to brew a strong cup of hibiscus tea. After it cools down, mix a quarter spoon of vitamin C powder and a few drops of vitamin E oil into it. Transfer this liquid into a dark-coloured spray bottle and keep it in a fridge. For best results, spray it on your face twice a day.

  1. Saffron and rosemary toner:

Saffron rejuvenates dull skin while lightening and brightening it at the same time. Rosemary is an excellent hydrating and toning agent. Together, they slow down the ageing process while the essential oils are very refreshing for the skin.

Method: Soak half a cup of chopped rosemary herb in one cup of warm water in a covered dish. After it cools down, add a few saffron strands to it and let it soak overnight. Strain the infused water next morning and mix a few drops of lemongrass or lavender essential oil to it. Transfer this liquid into a dark-coloured spray bottle and keep it in a fridge. For best results, spray it on your face twice a day.

  1. Strawberry and almond scrub:

Brown sugar is an exfoliating agent while almond whitens and moisturises the skin. Strawberry removes the dead skin cells and brightens the skin.

Method: Make a paste of 4-5 almonds that have been soaked overnight. Mix 4-5 mashed strawberries and a half cup of roughly grounded brown or white sugar to it. Scrub your skin using this mixture in circular motions and wash off with water.

  1. Liquorice, lemon juice, and raw milk face mask:

Liquorice prevents the production of melanin, lemon juice is a known bleaching agent, and raw milk contains lactic acid which removes tanning.

Method: Mix one tablespoon of liquorice powder, one teaspoon of lemon juice, and raw milk to make a smooth paste. Apply on your face and let it dry. Wash off after 20 minutes.

  1. Oatmeal, papaya, and rose water exfoliating face pack:

Both oatmeal and papaya are known for sloughing off dead skin cells, and together they brighten the skin to give an even complexion. Rose water is an excellent hydrating agent.

Method: Mix one tablespoon of oatmeal flour, one tablespoon of mashed papaya, and rose water to make a smooth paste. Apply on your face and let it dry. Wash off after 20 minutes.

  1. Orange peel, sandalwood powder, and yoghurt face pack:

Sandalwood moisturises the skin and improves its complexion which yoghurt evens out the skin tone.  Orange peel whitens and brightens the skin.

Method: Mix two tablespoons of orange peel powder, one teaspoon of sandalwood powder, and one tablespoon of yoghurt to make a smooth paste. Apply on your face and let it dry. Wash off after 35 minutes.

  1. Rice flour, turmeric, and green tea face pack:

Rice flour whitens and brightens the skin, refines the pores, and softens the skin. Turmeric adds a natural glow to the skin while green tea is full of anti-oxidants.

Method: Mix two tablespoons of rice flour, a pinch or two of turmeric powder, and strongly brewed green tea to make a smooth paste. Apply on your face and let it dry. Wash off after 20 minutes.
